KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement West has registered an FIR against an importer and clearing agent for submitting fake export certificates for clearing imported luxury vehicle.
Sources said that Collector Irfan Wahid received credible information that an unscrupulous person is attempting to clear used Toyota Land Cruiser, model 2025 by submitting fake and forge documents.
He immediately directed Additional Collector Zubair Shah and Assistant Collector Saba Ahmed to thwart any such attempt.
It is necessary to mention here that certain documents have been made mandatory for processing of Goods Declaration (GD) including Export Certificate issued by the concerned authority of the exporting country. In the instant case, the clearing agent submitted two (2) Export Certificates for the same vehicle. Both Export Certificates had same Chassis number.
Principal Appraiser Ghulam Yaseen Sabri and Appraising Officer Asim Abbas forwarded the export certificates to Trade & Investment Counselor, Embassy of Pakistan, Japan, it was confirmed that neither of the two documents are genuine.
The above facts and preliminary inquiry into the matter has revealed that accused importerIjaz Ahmed son of Muhammad Jahangir in connivance with partners/representatives of customs agent M/s Perfect International Agency, Mr. M. Rafiq Ummar, Muhammad Faisal and others has attempted to get the vehicle cleared on submission of fake / fabricated Export Certificates.
There is a theory that the importer took the vehicle and documents from a Pakistani in Japan based on trust, and then shipped the vehicle to Pakistan without paying the owner, and thus the owner refused to issue the export certificate.
An FIR is registered and further investigations are still underway till filing of this report.
