Tax evasion of Rs642.488m: Collector Irfan Javed’s Customs Exports file FIR against M/s A.K. Brothers

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Exports has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against M/s A.K. Brothers, Plot No WH-9, Sector 16-B, Industrial Area, Karachi for tax evasion of Rs642.488 million.

According to details, a credible information was received by Collector Mr. Jrfan Javed that M/s A.J. Brothrs has illegally removed duty/taxes free input goods from the registered EFS premises.

M/s A.K. Brothers was allotted EFS quota vide No. EFS-KEXP. 0920693-216-16-06-2023 for import of duty and taxes free input goods (textile cotton fabric, polyester ladies net embroider, viscose fabric, textile polyester furnishing, textile polyester velvet fabric and polyester knitted pile fabric) under Rule 878(1) of SRO 957(1)2021 dated 30.7.2021.

Perusal of PRAL data transpired that licensee acquired input goods of value Rs1416.174 million whereas their export stood at nil.

Accordingly, a team comprising of Deputy Collector EFS, Principal Appraiser EFS and Appraising Officer EFS of Collectorate of Customs Exports was constituted which raided the target premises at 3.00 pm on 9th September, 2024, wherein it transpired that duty taxes free input goods valuing Rs1,416.174 million involving duty and amounting to Rs642.488 million were not found on the premises and have illegally removed in violation of rule 880 (1) of SRO 957 (1) 2021 dated 30.7.2021.

An FIR in the instant case has been lodged in the Special Judge Customs & Taxation Karachi.

Accused namely Asif Inam son of Inam Elahi (proprietor of M/s A.K. Brothers) nominated in FIR was arrested on arrival at JIAP, Karachi on 21.9.2024 through vigilance.

Further investigation is underway.
