MULTAN: Customs officers deputed at Multan International Airport intercepted a significant smuggling attempt on Wednesday confiscating a haul of high-value mobile devices from a passenger arriving from Dubai on private airline flight FZ-325.
The passenger, identified as Irum Mansoor Khan, a Karachi resident, was subjected to a thorough inspection during routine clearance of luggage. Officials discovered 46 iPhone Pro Max devices, 24 Samsung smartphones, 5 Walkman players, and 4 high-end cameras concealed in her luggage. The seized items, estimated to be worth millions of rupees, were promptly confiscated.
The operation was led by Madam Tayyeba Kayani, Collector of Customs at Lahore Airports, with support from Syed Ali Akber and Maryam Jamila, Deputy Collector at Multan Airport. Hassan Saqib Sheikh, Chief Collector of Customs Airports, appreciated the team’s efforts in foiling the smuggling attempt.
Collector Customs Airports Tayyeba Kayani stated the vigilance and proactive scanning measures played a crucial role in uncovering the smuggling attempt. Investigations are underway to identify the culprits and their network.
Deputy Collector of Customs Maryam Jamila, emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to combating smuggling. “Our operations remain impartial and relentless. No smuggler, regardless of their tactics, will be spared,” she asserted.
After completing the necessary legal formalities, the woman was released, but the goods were detained for further investigation. Passenger failed to provide any necessary import documents of confiscated cell phones during their thorough examination at the Multan International Airport The action reflects the customs department’s heightened vigilance and dedication to protecting the national economy from illicit trade.
