IMF mission concludes Pakistan visit, briefed on financial governance, money laundering

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) analytical mission has completed its visit to Pakistan and departed after extensive discussions with government officials.

According to official sources, the IMF team, led by the Secretary of the Cabinet Division, held meetings with representatives from the Finance, Economic Affairs, Trade, and Privatisation ministries.

Discussions focused on governance reforms and enhancing accountability based on the mission’s recommendations.

The delegation also met officials from the Financial Monitoring Unit and received briefings on its operations, suspicious transactions, reporting mechanisms, and investigations.

Additionally, detailed discussions were held on measures to curb terrorist financing.

The IMF team also met with the Auditor General of Pakistan, gathering insights on audit processes and questioning the implementation of Public Accounts Committee directives.

Notably, the IMF delegation recently held meetings with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and legal representatives during their visit.
