Countries are run on taxes, not charities, says Aurangzeb

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Mohammad Aurangzeb on Saturday said that that paying taxes is our national duty and “If you want to eradicate corruption from your country then you have to pay taxes. Hospitals can run on charities not a country,”.

Addressing a ceremony in Faisalabad, Aurangzeb said that Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) is touching new heights.

He further said “I am personally holding meetings with businessmen and for this purpose I am visiting different chambers.”  He said he personally believed that budget proposals should be prepared by business community and the private sector.

The finance minister further said “This time we are preparing people-friendly budget and we are not preparing a budget that forces you to visit Islamabad instead we will visit you.”

Aurangzeb said they have to strengthen the tax system for progress and development of the country and “if we continue dodging taxes then our economy will not be bolstered.”

The minister said “We will expand our tax net in Budget 2025-26 and everyone should pay tax.”

He said that this is first time in history of Pakistan that present decided to levy agriculture income tax. Aurangzeb said that our national economy is strengthened while increase in receivables also recorded.

Mohammad Aurangzeb said that current inflation is on single digit due to economic reforms of current government.
