Sargodha Customs seizes Rs80m non-custom paid cigarettes from Sial Motorway

SARGODHA: Collectorate of Customs team and Motorway police in a joint operation on Sial Motorway seized non-custom paid cigarettes worth Rs80 million.

According to Sargodha customs officials, the joint operation was conducted following a tip-off that three truckloads with 600 cartons of cigarettes were present on Sial Motorway.

The customs officials and motorway police rushed to the scene and intercepted the trucks and after thorough checking of the vehicles, law-enforcers discovered five to seven million cigarettes kept in 600 cartons.

Later, the discovered articles were handed over to customs officials. Further investigation was under way.

On the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Customs Department has intensified operations to check the sale of non-custom paid goods.

Prime Minister further directed to use all available resources to curb smuggling in the region.
