ISLAMABAD: Bosnian envoy Dr Nedim Makarevic said here the other day that his country could become a gateway to Pakistani textile, sports and surgical goods for onward export to Europe for the benefit of the two countries.

“Bosnia-Herzegovina offers you [Pakistan] a gateway to the European Union,” he said while talking to state-run agency. Bosnia was considered a post-war country so it did not have any quotas for the export of finished products, which could be shipped to Europe and the US, he said. “Bosnia either does not pay export tax on its products or it is very minimal.” He said Germany was exporting Pakistani surgical instruments after giving them finishing touch with chrome or even without that to Bosnia. “Here is a great opportunity for Pakistani entrepreneurs manufacturing surgical instruments to set up their unit in Bosnia, label and export their products to the rest of Europe without facing any quota bars,” Makarevic added.

He urged the Pakistani private sector to step up efforts and establish production facilities for their products in Bosnia, which would offer them a gateway to Europe and help increase profit margins.

He suggested that Pakistani businessmen could also explore the possibility of establishing such facilities in Bosnia that would process the exported half-finished products. “This will lead to significant profits for the manufacturers,” the ambassador said.
