KPT, KCCI to foster collaboration for streamlining port operations, boosting trade

KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) reaffirmed the commitment to work jointly for streamlining trade operations and attracting investments in the business and maritime sectors of Pakistan.

The agreement was reached during a meeting of a 35 member KCCI delegation with the KPT Transition Management Committee (TMC) members and senior officers, in which the focus remained at evolving policies that contribute in government’s efforts for making the Karachi port a regional hub of maritime activities and facilitating commercial and trade sectors, said a statement issued here.

The KCCI delegation- led by Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala and President KCCI Jawaid Bilwani- visited KPT on the invitation of the KPT Board of Trustees and TMC with a strategic aim of boosting national trade. The meeting, chaired by the KPT TMC members Abdullah Zaki and Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, was attended by the senior management officers of KPT besides the delegates.

The delegation was briefed about facilities available at KPT in connection with the Export Finance Scheme, avenues of boosting national trade with efficient port operations and infrastructure development initiatives by KPT. The KCCI delegation also shared some valuable insights for further improving the port logistics while removing procedural bottlenecks to promote a business friendly environment.

The TMC as well as the senior management officers of KPT appreciated the KCCI measures initiatives taken for promoting and strengthening national trade.

The meeting concluded on a note to jointly explore avenues of engagement and collaboration to further augment national trade.
