ISLAMABAD: In a landmark move aimed at improving taxpayer facilitation and increasing tax compliance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced an Urdu language version of its income tax return form for the Tax Year 2025.

This is the first time in the history of the FBR that the entire tax return form is available in the national language, a significant step to simplify the process for millions of Urdu-speaking taxpayers across the country.

The new feature, accessible through the FBR’s online portal, IRIS, offers taxpayers the option to switch between English and Urdu. The user interface and all instructions are now available in Urdu, making it more accessible to individuals who may not be comfortable with English. The form, titled “انکم ٹیکس گوشوارہ برائے سال 2025,” (Income Tax Return for Tax Year 2025), is designed to be more user-friendly, with simplified language and clear instructions.

This initiative follows a long-standing demand from the public and various business organizations to make the tax filing process more inclusive. Previously, taxpayers often had to rely on tax consultants or other experts to understand and fill out the forms, adding to their costs and inconvenience. The new Urdu form is expected to empower individual taxpayers to file their returns themselves, promoting self-reliance and greater transparency.

The FBR has also uploaded video tutorials in Urdu to guide taxpayers through the process of filing returns and wealth statements. This comprehensive approach to taxpayer education, coupled with the new language option, is part of the FBR’s broader strategy to modernize its systems and improve service delivery standards. The FBR hopes that this move will encourage more people to fulfill their tax obligations and contribute to the national exchequer.
