PRA launches crackdown on tax irregularities

LAHORE:The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched an extensive enforcement drive against irregularities in tax payments and non-compliance with sales tax regulations.

Enforcement teams carried out inspections at five business establishments — including renowned restaurants, advertising agencies and banquet halls — in various areas of Lahore such as Defence, Bedian, Shah Jamal and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate. Business. The teams scrutinized their record and imposed fines amounting to Rs. 5 million for violations, including failure to implement the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS), RRA spokesperson disclosed to media here.

PRA enforcement officers also impounded relevant records and issued notices to the defaulters.

In separate enforcement actions, 11 food outlets in Okara, Sahiwal and Vehari were served notices for not using the EIMS as required under tax laws.

The spokesperson said, collecting tax from consumers under the head of services but failing to deposit it in the government treasury is a punishable offense.

She added that the Authority is actively conducting enforcement operations against non-compliant businesses while simultaneously running awareness campaigns through print and electronic media to promote voluntary compliance and facilitate taxpayers.
