Peshawar Customs seizes smuggled goods, vehicle worth Rs70m

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement seized smuggled goods and an offending vehicle worth Rs 70 million during an operation at Nizampur, Pindi Road.

The seized goods includes a large consignment of foreign-origin smuggled and contraband goods worth Rs 50 million, along with the offending vehicle total value of the case Rs 70 million, said a news release.

Operating on discreet surveillance, officials of the Kohat Customs Division followed a suspicious Hino truck through sensitive areas and intercepted it at a mobile checkpoint around 4:30 pm on Saturday evening.

Upon inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with non-duty-paid foreign-origin goods. The recovered goods included 15,000 sticks of assorted foreign origin cigarettes, 2,200 Kg of betel nuts, 1,000 packets of Gutka, and 1,200 packets of hookah products.

The driver failed to produce any documents proving lawful import, leading to immediate seizure of recovered goods under the Customs Act. 1969.

The operation was led by Assistant Collector Customs Omer Jan, assisted by Inspectors Asif Nisar and Waqar Ahmad of Customs Enforcement Peshawar.

FBR reaffirm its resolve to curb smuggling and illicit trade and to protect the nation’s economic frontiers.
