KARACHI: In line with the Federal Board of Revenue’s sustained efforts to curb smuggling and protect the national exchequer, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, in coordination with Pakistan Rangers, conducted a successful intelligence-based operation at Al-Asif, Sohrab Goth, Karachi.
During the operation, three Mazda truckloads of foreign-origin smuggled goods were recovered. The seized items mainly included smuggled cigarettes, gutka, sheesha flavor, Irani food items, cosmetics, toiletries, dairy products, beverages, and other assorted consumer goods.
The recovery comprised, inter alia, 4,859 sticks of smuggled cigarettes, 258 sticks of sheesha flavor, 2,375 packets of gutka, and 57 packets of niswar, besides large quantities of foreign-brand cosmetics, personal care items, food products, syrups, oils, dairy items, and beverages.
The tentative market value of the seized goods is estimated at approximately PKR 20 million.
All recovered goods have been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are being initiated under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969. Further investigation is underway to trace the culprits involved in this smuggling activity.
The Federal Board of Revenue remains committed to strengthening enforcement measures through effective intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration to curb smuggling and safeguard the national economy.
