LAHORE: The Ministry of Commerce has issued its position regarding the closure of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, making it clear that Pakistan’s trade interests go beyond Afghanistan alone.
Officials from the Ministry said that Pakistan maintains trade ties not only with Afghanistan but also with several Central Asian countries. They explained that containers belonging to different countries that were already present at Pakistani ports were allowed clearance, ensuring that trade activities did not come to a complete halt.
According to the officials, Central Asian states have been advised to transport their containers via alternative routes, including Iran or China. Countries with stranded cargo were also informed that they could move their goods through air routes if needed, to keep business moving and avoid losses.
The Ministry further clarified that it did not recommend the closure of the border with Afghanistan. Officials stressed that Pakistan is trying to keep trade on track and avoid disruptions, while managing the situation through practical and flexible arrangements.
