LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the dismissal of a BS-20 officer of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) on proven corruption charges. The officer, Riaz Ali Shah, was serving as Chief (Accounting) in the Organizational Audit Wing of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Islamabad, while posted in Karachi.
The disciplinary proceedings against him were initiated under the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020 following an Order of Inquiry, Charge Sheet, and Statement of Allegations issued on August 18, 2025, citing inefficiency, misconduct, and corruption.
Zubair Bilal (IRS/BS-21) was appointed as the inquiry officer, who submitted the report on November 12, 2025. The report confirmed that eleven out of twelve charges against Riaz Ali Shah were proven and recommended his removal from service.
Following the inquiry, a Show Cause Notice was issued on November 19, 2025, giving the officer ten days to respond. He submitted his reply on December 5, 2025. The Hearing Officer, Syed Hamid Ali (PCS/BS-21), granted him a personal hearing on December 24, 2025, which he did not attend.
After reviewing the Charge Sheet, Inquiry Report, Show Cause Notice, and Hearing Note, the Prime Minister, acting under the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020, imposed the major penalty of dismissal from service on Riaz Ali Shah.
This decision underlines the government’s firm stance against corruption and emphasizes accountability within Pakistan’s civil service, sending a strong message that misconduct and corruption will not be tolerated at any level.
