LAHORE: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Coordinator Saif Ur Rehman has said that digitisation is the key to build a transparent, efficient and inclusive economy in Pakistan.

Talking to a delegation of traders, he said, by leveraging modern digital tools, the government can significantly reduce corruption, leakages and inefficiencies which have plagued public institutions. Digital payment systems, e-governance portals and automated tax collection can minimize human discretion, ensuring greater accountability and traceability of financial transactions, he added.

The Coordinator said that introduction of digital IDs, online land records, and e-procurement systems enhances transparency and builds public trust by making information easily accessible to citizens. Digitalisation also broadens the tax base by documenting the informal economy, enabling fair taxation and increasing state revenues without overburdening compliant taxpayers.

Moreover, he said, digital platforms promote financial inclusion by bringing unbanked populations into the formal financial system through mobile banking and fintech solutions. He was of the view that this not only empowers citizens but also stimulates economic growth, asserting that for Pakistan, embracing digitalisation is not a choice but a necessity to ensure transparency, strengthen governance and achieve sustainable economic development.
