GWADAR: Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in strengthening trade connectivity with Iran and Central Asian states as the Gabd Border Terminal has been made operational.

The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has activated the terminal for the TIR system, a move expected to enhance regional trade through Iran.

Officials say the new route provides a shorter, safer, and more modern corridor to Central Asia, reducing reliance on routes through Afghanistan.

In a recent development, containers carrying meat were transported from Karachi to Tashkent. After priority handling and clearance, the shipment was dispatched to Uzbekistan via Iran.

According to NLC, multiple trade corridors connecting China, Iran, and Central Asian countries have already been activated. The Gabd Border Terminal was constructed in March 2024 as part of efforts to improve regional trade infrastructure.

Economic experts believe this development will significantly boost exports to Central Asia by reducing distances, lowering logistics costs, and improving overall trade efficiency.

The government has in recent months pushed to expand trade ties and ease export bottlenecks as part of broader efforts to support growth and external balances.
