SIALKOT: Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Timothy Kane visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and held an interactive session with the business community to discuss opportunities for strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Australia.
The high commissioner was warmly received by President SCCI Syed Ahtesham Mazhar, Senior Vice President Muhammad Murad Arshad, Vice President Salman Sheikh along with members of the Executive Committee and leading representatives of the local business community.
In his welcome address, President SCCI Syed Ahtesham Mazhar highlighted Sialkot’s position as one of Pakistan’s premier export-oriented cities, renowned worldwide for its manufacturing and export of surgical instruments, sports goods, leather products, textiles, and apparel. He stressed the importance of expanding Pakistan-Australia trade relations through enhanced institutional collaboration, business-to-business networking, exchange of trade delegations, improved visa facilitation, and greater participation of Sialkot-based exporters in Australian trade fairs and exhibitions.
Speaking on the occasion, Australian High Commissioner Timothy Kane commended Sialkot’s industrial achievements and its global reputation, particularly in the sports goods sector. He said the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Australia in areas such as trade, education, agriculture, climate resilience, and investment, while encouraging stronger business-to-business linkages and investment partnerships.
He also reaffirmed Australia’s support for Pakistan in agricultural innovation and capacity building.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing a shared commitment to further strengthening economic ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation to promote mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities between Pakistan and Australia.
