LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a digital monitoring system for marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and restaurants. The move aims to curb tax evasion and improve revenue collection across the province.

The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. During the session, officials reviewed revenue performance and discussed ways to make tax collection more transparent and technology-driven.

Under the new plan, modern camera systems will be installed at marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and major food chains. These systems will track business activity and help detect irregular transactions. In addition, the government is considering mandatory digital payments at selected restaurants to improve transaction records.

Officials said strict action will be taken against businesses that issue fake receipts or hide sales. They added that the digital monitoring system will help identify tax evasion more quickly. It will also strengthen enforcement across key sectors.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government will follow a zero-tolerance policy on tax evasion. She said technology will be used to make the tax system more efficient and transparent. She also stated that digital tools and surveillance will support better compliance.

Meanwhile, officials shared that Punjab has set a revenue target of Rs. 528.5 billion for FY27. The Punjab Revenue Authority increased collections from Rs. 250 billion to Rs. 346 billion, showing a growth of 38 percent.

They also noted that the authority has expanded its reach from 10 to 26 districts. Moreover, new intelligence, investigation, taxpayer audit, and legal wings have been set up to strengthen tax administration.
