Rs 700m smuggled stuff seized in Quetta

QUETTA: The Customs authorities seized smuggled stuff to the tune of Rs 700 million during two different search operations in Quetta.

“Rs 500 million cloth of high quality, and Rs 200 hashish and tyres were confiscated from the hidden cavities of two trucks,” Collector Customs Zahoor Akhtar Raja said told reporters here the other day.

He said that Customs authorities seized one 1,00,000 meter cloth and 300 tyres worth Rs over 500 million during a snap checking at Baleli Check post, the entry point of Quetta. The confiscated printed and plain fabric was of high quality. Similarly, in another raid, Customs and Frontier Corps in a joint venture seized 1253 kg of hashish kept in secret cavities of a truck after a brief vehicle chase,” Custom Collector said. Customs men signaled the truck driver who did not comply the orders and tried to escape from being checked, he said, adding that driver of a truck, after short drive managed to flee leaving behind the truck in a neighbouring vicinity. The Custom apprehended the truck and recovered hashish. The sized hashish has some Rs 200 million in the international market, the Custom Official stressed. He said that Custom in a record seizure of Quetta’s history apprehended 475 kg of heroin, 27 kg Orpheum and 123 kg of morphine worth 3 billion. Zahoor Raja said that Customs Collectorate Quetta is striving hard to curb smuggling and strengthen the economy through collecting revenue in various heads.
