LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has imposed a complete ban on the issuance of manual receipts across restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and marriage halls throughout the province, in a major crackdown on alleged tax payment manipulation.
According to media reports, the directive was issued by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, following which commissioners in all districts have issued formal notifications enforcing the new policy.
Under the notification, all hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, and marriage halls are now required to issue receipts exclusively through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS).
Businesses that fail to comply and continue issuing receipts outside the EIMS framework will face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million. Repeated violations could result in the business being sealed for up to one month.
The PRA has also warned of strict legal action against any business found interfering with official duties, tampering with sales records, or refusing to provide records to authorities.
The notification further bars businesses from issuing kitchen order slips, unpaid bills, or similar informal documents in place of proper receipts. Every receipt issued to a customer must now carry the business name, address, receipt number, and a PRA-issued QR code.
PRA officials said the measure is aimed at bringing transparency to the province’s tax collection system, digitizing sales records, and curbing tax evasion.
