LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has issued new guidelines requiring all restaurants, hotels and coffee shops across the province to issue digital receipts to customers, as part of efforts to ensure transparency in tax payments.

Under the guidelines, businesses will no longer be permitted to hand out kitchen orders, unpaid bills, pre-bills or temporary bills in place of proper receipts. All food chains, restaurants, hotels and coffee shops have been directed to prominently display the new guidelines at their premises.

A PRA spokesperson urged citizens to obtain a digital receipt every time they avail services at a restaurant or hotel, and to do so only after making payment. Customers have also been advised to check that the receipt carries the correct business name, address and Punjab Taxpayer Registration Number (PTRN).

According to the guidelines, a valid digital receipt must include order details, the applicable tax rate, the pre-tax amount and the total payable amount, along with the PRA invoice number and PRA QR code. Customers can scan the QR code on the receipt to verify the transaction independently.

The spokesperson said citizens should immediately report any business that refuses to accept digital or card payments. Complaints can be lodged through the PRA Sahulat application, the social media platforms of PRA, or via WhatsApp at 0343-0000772.

The PRA stressed that obtaining digital receipts plays a key role in ensuring tax transparency and urged the public to safeguard the taxes they contribute toward the development and prosperity of Punjab.
