ISLAMABAD: Sixteen senior officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have reportedly been identified as holding dual nationality or permanent residency abroad, prompting the tax authority to initiate further scrutiny.

According to documents cited in media reports, the officials include 10 officers from the Inland Revenue Service and six from the Pakistan Customs Service.

Among the Inland Revenue officials are senior officers serving in Grades 19 to 21, while the Pakistan Customs officials include officers from Grades 17, 19 and 20.

The FBR has decided to further examine the matter and has also sought information from other officials regarding foreign citizenship and permanent residency.

Under new disclosure requirements concerning foreign nationality of civil servants, FBR officers have been directed to submit their details on a prescribed form.

The officials have reportedly been given 90 days to disclose information regarding any foreign citizenship or permanent residency.

The disclosure of dual nationality or foreign residency does not by itself establish misconduct. Any further action would depend on applicable laws, service rules and the circumstances of individual officers.
