ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s trade deficit has soared by 18.11% during the first two months of the current fiscal year, rising from around $6 billion to $7.11 billion, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released on Thursday.

The trade deficit increased by more than $1 billion compared to the same period last year, as imports grew at a faster pace than exports between July and August.

However, exports declined by 15% in August compared with July, with their monthly value falling from $2.95 billion to $2.50 billion, according to the Bureau of Statistics.

Despite the monthly decline in exports, August exports were still 3.81% higher than in August 2025. Meanwhile, imports increased by 7.38% year-on-year, reaching $5.67 billion during the month.

The monthly trade deficit, however, declined by 19.69%, standing at around $3.17 billion in August, according to the PBS figures.
