ISLAMABAD: The Sugar Advisory Board, chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanvir Hussain, has allowed the export of 200,000 tonnes of sugar after reviewing available data.
The representatives from all provinces, farmers and the Sugar Mills Association attended the meeting.
Rana Tanvir Hussain said sugar mill owners must ensure timely payments to farmers. He said protecting farmers’ interests was the government’s top priority.
He said the decision to allow sugar exports was taken after considering domestic requirements and available stocks.
The federal minister said a balance between the interests of farmers and the sugar industry was essential.
