ISLAMABAD: The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) confirmed a major legal defeat. The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan dismissed the long-standing appeal by NBP against its pensioners/retired employees.
The court announced its reserved judgment on September 16, 2026. This ruling finalizes Civil Appeal No. 1688/2021, formally known as National Bank of Pakistan & others vs. Khawaja Abdul Hameed Nasir & others.
NBP had actively contested the standard financial rights of its pensioners/retired employees. Consequently, the court’s dismissal officially entitles these pensioners to receive standard, government-approved increases in their pensions.
Following the judicial setback, NBP promptly informed the financial market. Acting Company Secretary Mehnaz Salar sent a formal notification to the General Manager of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
The bank submitted this letter under Reference HO:SBoD: 551. NBP filed the disclosure in accordance with Clause 5.6.1 of the PSX Rule Book. Furthermore, the bank explicitly classified the update as “Material information” for the market.
In its official letter, NBP requested the PSX to notify its TRE Certificate Holders about the development. However, the legal proceedings are not entirely concluded on paper. Both the bank and the public currently await the detailed text of the full judgment.
