KARACHI: Customs officials recovered 14 new iPhones and two bottles of liquor allegedly hidden by a passenger in a washroom at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.
According to a statement issued by the Collectorate of Customs, the passenger had arrived in Karachi from Hong Kong and allegedly attempted to hide the mobile phones to evade customs checks.
The passenger’s suspicious movements alerted customs officials after he remained inside the airport washroom for around 20 minutes.
When he returned, customs officials searched his luggage and recovered two bottles of liquor.
The passenger reportedly admitted to hiding the mobile phones in the washroom after seeing customs officials.
Following his identification, a customs team searched the washroom and recovered 14 new iPhones concealed underneath a commode.
The recovered mobile phones and liquor were seized under the Customs Act, according to officials.
Customs authorities estimated the total value of the seized items at around Rs5 million.
Pakistan Customs seizes arms and ammunition worth Rs.32 million
Earlier, Pakistan Customs officials seized a large cache of arms and ammunition, along with a vehicle, in an operation in Sidra Sharif.
The seizure, estimated to be worth Rs.32 million, was made by Customs Enforcement staff at JCP Yarik after officials received what they described as credible information.
Officials said they intercepted the vehicle at Sidra Sharif, but the driver abandoned it and fled the scene.
The seized arms included 4 M4 (5.56mm) rifles (USA), 2 G-III rifles with one magazine, 42 Maghull PMAG D-60 magazines, 20 empty M4 magazines, 40 empty AK-47 magazines, 18 Tissa Zigara pistols (Turkey) with two magazines each, 30 Beretta pistols (25 USA-made and 5 Italy-made), 2 unmarked shot pistols and 120 Chinese-made 30-bore pistols.
