KARACHI: Foreign investors repatriated $557.6 million in profits and dividends from Pakistan during the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27 (2MFY27), according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The amount was lower than the $643.7 million repatriated during the corresponding period of FY2025-26, representing a decline of around 13.4 percent.

The bulk of the repatriation during July-August FY2026-27 was related to foreign direct investment (FDI). Profit and dividend payments against FDI amounted to $548.2 million, compared with $642.4 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

In contrast, profit and dividend repatriation against foreign portfolio investment (FPI) increased significantly. Payments under FPI rose to $9.3 million during 2MFY27 from just $1.3 million in the corresponding period of FY2025-26.

Overall, FDI accounted for the overwhelming majority of foreign investors’ profit and dividend repatriation during the period.

August 2026 repatriation

During August 2026 alone, total profit and dividend repatriation stood at $296.2 million, comprising $293.2 million against FDI and $3 million against FPI.

The August outflow represented more than half of the total repatriated during the first two months of FY2026-27, with FDI remaining the principal component of payments to foreign investors.

Foreign investment outflows

The latest figures provide an indication of the foreign exchange outflows associated with returns on foreign investment in Pakistan during the opening months of FY2026-27.

While total profit and dividend repatriation declined compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year, FDI continued to account for almost the entire amount of payments made to foreign investors.
