ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of taxpayers have been unable to file their income tax returns for the fiscal year 2025-26 due to technical problems and slow performance on the IRIS portal, with only one day left before the deadline.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set September 30, 2026, as the last date for submitting returns for tax year 2026. Concerns have been raised that the system load on the portal will increase further as the deadline approaches.
Taxpayers report that the slow portal and other technical faults are causing unusual delays in filing returns. The additional load during the final days has added to the difficulties.
Sources said changes were also made to the income tax return form for tax year 2026, which further reduced the time available to complete and submit returns.
The final form was issued on September 2, 2026, leaving taxpayers about 28 days to file.
Taxpayers say the delay in issuing the form and the technical issues in the last days have made timely filing difficult.
They have asked the FBR to extend the deadline, saying an extension would give them an additional opportunity to complete and submit their returns on time.
