KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking the restoration of frozen bank accounts belonging to Khanani and Kalia Exchange Company and its chief executive, Munaf Ahmed, for four weeks.
The adjournment came after the Deputy Attorney General sought more time to submit the federal government’s response.
The petitioners argued that the FIA had registered two money laundering cases against the company in 2008, but they were acquitted in both cases in 2013 and 2014.
According to their counsel, the Sindh High Court upheld the acquittal decisions in 2019.
The petitioner stated that more than Rs600 million remained in bank accounts frozen during the investigation, despite the acquittals.
The petitioners maintained that the accounts had remained frozen even though the allegations had not been proved, and requested the court to order their restoration.
The court granted the federal government four weeks to submit its response and adjourned the hearing.
