LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to ban the use, purchase and sale of spying devices, including glasses, pens, watches and other everyday items equipped with hidden cameras and recording equipment.
A Punjab Home Department spokesperson said strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in the illegal use or trade of concealed surveillance devices.
The decision follows complaints of unauthorised surveillance, harassment and blackmail involving hidden recording equipment.
The spokesperson said the restrictions were aimed at protecting citizens’ privacy and personal information, particularly the safety of women and children.
The provincial government was committed to safeguarding fundamental rights and preventing the misuse of concealed electronic devices, the spokesperson added, warning of strict penalties for violations.
