ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called for stronger coordination among government institutions to increase Pakistan’s exports and expand access to international markets by making better use of the European Union’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) framework.

Chairing an inter-ministerial meeting on Wednesday, Dar reviewed measures to promote trade and exports, with discussions focusing on improving trade facilitation, raising the quality of Pakistani products and meeting international commitments.

Separately, Dar chaired a meeting of the Wheat Steering Committee to assess the country’s overall grain availability and consider import planning to ensure an uninterrupted domestic supply of wheat.

He said maintaining adequate reserves of wheat and other essential grains remained a priority, stressing that supply disruptions must be avoided.

The deputy prime minister also called for effective coordination between federal and provincial authorities to ensure that wheat and flour remained available to consumers at affordable prices.

He directed the relevant departments to closely monitor market prices, maintain sufficient wheat supplies and sustain the downward trend in flour prices.

The meeting was attended by the federal minister for national food security and research, senior officials from relevant ministries and departments, and representatives of the provincial governments.
