NEW DELHI: India Coastal Security Group (CSG) police have seized 288 sea horses, 189 conches and seven sea cucumbers and nabbed two smugglers, all endangered species protected under Wildlife Protection Act, from two persons and handed them over to the Forest Department officials here the other day.
A team of CSG personnel, led by Krishnaraj, Inspector of Police, during the course of their checks at Muthukuda village an interior village in the coastal areas, seized the marine species stocked by two persons N.Ramkumar (36) and S.Lathif (52) and immediately alerted the Forest officials.
The Forest officials have initiated criminal proceedings against the two. The fishermen said that the catch was used for making medicines.
