NEW YORK: Mark Zuckerberg has apologized to Hamza Ali Abbasi as a post shared by the Pakistani actor was removed. The post was regarding the freedom of expression and Charlie Hebdo attack.
When asked by a Facebook user, what Zuckerberg had to say about his network’s deletion of the post shared by the ‘Waar’ actor, Mark Zuckerberg personally responded, “I don’t think this should have been blocked. Our team might have made a mistake.
Zuckerberg tagged Justin Osofsky, whose Facebook profile identifies him as Vice President of Global Operations and Media Partnerships for Facebook. He commented, “As Mark mentioned, we made a mistake in taking this down. We try to do our best, but sometimes make mistakes. We apologize for this error, and hope that the author will re-post it as we are not able to restore it from our end. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.”
Hamza Ali Abbasi himself posted a screenshot of the comment by the co-founder of Facebook. He also thanked Zuckerberg for accepting his mistake.
He posted on his official Facebook account, “It’s nice of Mr. Zuckerberg to accept his organization’s mistake, however, I highly doubt if it was a ‘mistake’ at all. Nonetheless, it is evidence that when enough righteous people stand for truth, it always triumphs. Thank you everyone for the rigorous support. I hope someday the pseudo liberals understand that ‘Freedom of Speech’ is not a ‘universal ethic’, RESPECT is a universal ethic. Disagree, argue, deny, reject, debate, But insulting and making a mockery out of anyone is in fact against the idea of Freedom of Speech and is also a rejection of the universal ethic of RESPECT”.
Talking to local media, Abbasi explained the entire situation saying, “I had been trying to log into Facebook for a couple of hours and it wasn’t accepting the password. I genuinely thought it had been hacked but then I got an email from Facebook saying that my account had been temporarily blocked and my status had been deleted and this was the first of three warnings. That really made me angry so I took the screen grab and posted it as soon as I had access to my account. I post so many controversial things on Facebook, I believe in voicing my opinion. It’s just funny that their selective freedom of speech caused them to delete only this particular post of all things”.
