18km long Rs 30b Multan Metro Bus project to start in Feb: Shahbaz

MULTAN: The Rs30 billion Multan Metro Bus Project has finally been approved by the Provincial Government and the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif will lay its foundation stone in second week of February, The Nation has learnt.

Sources disclosed that the over 18-kilometer long project was okayed by the Chief Minister in a high-level meeting held in Lahore on Tuesday and it would be completed in just one year.

“The route of Metro begins from Bahauddin Zakariya University and ends at Chowk Kumharanwala with a record elevated patch of 12 kilometers,” sources further disclosed. The Metro Bus will operate between BZU and Chowk Kumharanwala via Bosan Road, Chungi No-9, Humayun Road, Fish Market, Daulat Gate, Hafiz Jamal Road, Chungi No-14, Mumtazabad, BCG Chowk and Vehari Chowk.

“The Multan Metro will be a unique project with about 70 per cent of its route in elevated (flyover) form,” sources added. The longest flyover will start from Northern by-pass Chowk on Bosan Road and end at BCG Chowk while the second flyover will begin from Vehari Chowk and land at Jinnah Park. Sources said that 21 stations would be built on Metro route to facilitate the citizens and it would offer quick and safe transport to the citizens at cheaper fares. Sources said that the Chief Minister had also directed the project authorities to review the possibility of utilization of existing flyovers on the route of Metro.
