ISLAMABAD: A total of R s29, 551.80 million have been spent on the construction of basic infrastructure of Diamer-Bhasha dam from 2009 to December 2014, State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali told National Assembly.
Responding to the question Khalida Mansoor, he said the United States has agreed to fund the project. However the government will construct the project on its own if funding is not available.
The construction of infrastructure/preliminary works of the project colongy at Thor Valley and Composite Model Village II at Harpan Das at Karakarom Highway is in process.
He said the construction of main dam has not yet stated due to non availability of financing arrangements from International Donor Agencies.
A sum of Rs337.89 million had been spent on basic infrastructure of Diamer-Bhasha dam during 2009-10. Rs3,534.38 million were spent in 2010-11, Rs4,788.07 million in 2011-12, Rs2,143.41 million in 2012-13, Rs7,774.53 million during 2013-14, Rs8,451 million in 2014-15 and Rs973.49 million were spent on construction of dam’s infrastructure in 2014-15. Responding to another question of Muzammil Qureshi he said 62 officials of various DISCOs have been suspended on charges of corruption and negligence from duties. Vigilance directorates have been setup in companies to detect/control the corruption.

To another question of Salman Baloch of MQM he said the contract of Karachi Electric Supply Company would be ended this month. New contract would be awarded to those, who meet criteria.
