Appraisement-West launches crackdown on tax defaulters involved in violation of SRO1125 (I)/2011

KARACHI: The Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) on the orders of Collector MCC Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem has expedited the pace of crackdown against tax defaulters who are involved in violating the SRO1125 (I)/2011.

AIB MCC Appraisement-West while scrutinizing the clearance data of the importers who cleared their consignments under SRO 1125(I)/2011 during last four years has found that five importers are involved in taking undue benefit of above law in clearance of detergents. The Collector MCC Appraisement-West has made a team headed by Additional Collector-ADC III Nayyar Shafiq, who will supervise the entire crackdown and brief the Collector over the development made in this regard.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Goods Declaration (GDs) of five importers has been scrutinized which revealed that those were involved in violation of import laws. “The AIB officials have sent scrutinized record to the concerned authorities of Collectorate for further proceedings”, sources revealed. The sources further disclosed that the Collectorate will issue short recovery demand notices against the importers who were involved in misusing the SRO 1125(I)/2011.

They further said that the AIB/R&D will continue to scrutinize the data of cleared consignments containing detergents and chemicals, adding that millions of rupees recovery is expected from different importers who are involved in misusing the law. The sources said that the Collector-MCC Appraisement-West has given clear orders to concerned authorities for detecting revenue shortfall cases as many as they can for achieving the revenue target by the end of Fiscal Year2014-15.

The Internal Audit-Customs on the instruction of FBR authorities has also worked on to prepare audit-paras of short recovery regarding the violation of SRO 1125(I)/2011.
