Malaysia customs seizes RM530,000 worth of liquor in 4 containers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia customs department seized RM2,286 worth of liquor in four containers at the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) here.

Penang Customs director Datuk Zulkifli Yahaya said checks on the containers were conducted after officers suspected something amiss at about 10.40pm.

He said officers subsequently found three containers filled with a variety of beer while the other contained whiskey.

The haul is valued at RM537,768 while the unpaid taxes totaled RM1,748, 327.40, said Zulkifli. The contents of the containers were declared as concrete blocks,” he told a press conference today.

Zulkifli added that a man in his 30s has been detained to facilitate investigations under the Customs Act 1967.He said initial investigations showed the consignment was to be sent to Shah Alam in Selangor.
