LAHORE: The government decision to form special Anti-Narcotics Police Stations in all divisions of the Punjab is still far from realization even after three years of work. A special committee was formed to supervise the progress but the project of public interest is still in pipeline.

Punjab Government had decided to establish special Anti-Narcotics Police Stations in the province on divisional levels, especially in Gujranwala, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, DG Khan, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad. This important decision was taken to control the Drugs supplies, sales and the Drug dealers in the Province.

According to the Project details Excise Police stations will be fully authorized to investigate the cases against drug mafias and to take them in to the Courts. Funds were also allocated for this purpose by Punjab Government to purchase necessary instruments for establishing checkpoints on entrances and exits of the large cities.

Government of Punjab has already issued the funds to purchase Furniture, office material and even vehicles for the officers. These special funds were approved by the Government after receiving feasibility report from Excise and Taxation Department Punjab. A special committee was made in 2014 by Excise and Taxation Department of the Punjab to take necessary action for the establishment of these Police stations but no development is visible on ground.
