Appraisement-West collector is taking keen interest in making Audit Department fully operational
KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-West Collector Muhammad Saleem convened a meeting of the Audit Department of the collectorate.
Additional Collector-I (ADC) Dr Muhammad Iftikhar Ahmed, ADC-II Azhar Hussain Merchant, ADC-III Nayyar Shafiq, ADC-IV Naeem Ahmed and other officials of the department attended the meeting.
Collector Saleem reviewed the performance of the Audit Department and also wanted to know about the status of audit paras finalised by the collectorate.
ADC-III Nayyar Shafiq briefed the collector about the current status and number of the audit paras which have been finalised by the collectorate.
The ADC-III informed the collector that Rs 100 million of audit paras in telecommunication and other sectors have been finalised so far and final demand notices for recovery have been sent to the defaulters for recovering the evaded duty/taxes amount.
ADC-III Nayyar Shafiq also told the collector that the audit paras sent by the Internal Audit-Customs have been sent to the concerned groups and short recovery notices would be issued against the defaulters soon.
During the meeting, Collector Saleem laid emphasis on improving the performance of the officials of the Audit Department and said that 100 percent recovery of the evaded/leaked duty and taxes could be ensured.
He also said that the department officials should take keen interest to finalise the audit paras and expedite their work in order to send short recovery demand notices against the defaulters.
Recently, the Internal Audit-Customs has sent millions of rupees audit paras highlighting revenue recovery in telecommunication sector, steel billet consignments, violation of SRO-1125, SRO-551, SRO-565 and SRO-575 after detecting revenue leakages.
It was the first meeting held by a collectorate to identify the number of decided and pending audit paras.
Sources informed Customs Today that Collector Saleem was taking keen interest in making the Audit Department fully operational. The collector, they added, wanted the department to recover revenue leakages.
