Porsche spokesman says no plans to update diesel V8

ROME: Porsche spokesman reveals there are no plans to update the diesel V8 as “it isn’t a simple process to make the engine Euro 6-compliant”. As the eight-cylinder diesel sells well in certain countries such as Germany and the UK, the issue of a potential replacement engine “is being studied”.

The Volkswagen Group’s 4,134cc diesel V8, as featured in the Porsche Cayenne, is not being modified for Euro 6 emissions norms, just-auto.com has learned. Despite this, it is still part of the newly-updated SUV’s model range.

In the Cayenne, the V8 powers the S Diesel derivative. Its power output is 283kW (385hp). While this is obviously far lower than the 419kW (570hp) of the latest petrol-engine Turbo S, its 850Nm is still higher than that of this, the most powerful Cayenne. The face lifted Turbo S has just been revealed at the 2015 Detroit auto show. Previously, it produced 750Nm but the engine has gained 50Nm as well as 20hp.
