Saint-Petersburg Sea Port cargo turnover up 5% to 8.1m tonnes in 2014

MOSCOW: In 2014 the turnover of OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (SP SPb) amounted to 8.1 mln. tons, which is by 5% more than the same indicator of the last year. Among them general cargoes amounted to 6.1 mln tons (+9%), bulk and loose cargoes amounted to 2 mln tons (-5%).

In particular, due to growth of export of Russian metallurgical companies handling volumes of ferrous metals of the company increased by 19% up to 2.3 mln tons. Due to decrease of export of aluminum handling volumes of non-ferrous metals decreased by 21% to 1.2 mln tons.

Within the reporting period SP SPb handled 0.6 mln tons, by 31% less of ro-ro cargoes, 70% of which is import. Within the reporting period handling volumes of transportation vehicles (mainly cars) decreased by 33% to 29.4 thousand units, which reflects the situation at the car market in 2014.

Handling of equipment and mechanisms including project cargoes, heavy-lifts and out-of-gauge cargoes increased by 17% up to 94.4 thousand tons in 2014. Handling of project and out-of-gauge cargoes is one of priority spheres of business of SP SPb. The company has at its disposal all the necessary equipment, modern railway infrastructure suitable for railway transport of all types storage areas for allocation of large oversized shipment lots.

Within the second quarter of the reporting period SP SPb started to handle food cargoes. Handling volumes of such cargoes amounted to 29.5 thousand tons.Within the reporting period the port handled 1.1 mln tons of mineral fertilizers which is by 9% less than in 2013.In 2014 export cargo flow of SP SPb grew by 11% up to 6.7 mln tons, import flow decreased by 16% to 1.4 mln tons. The share of export in the structure of the company’s turnover amounted to 82%, the import share to 18%.

OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (included in UCL Port – stevedoring division of the International transportation group UCL Holding) – is the largest operator, rendering services on handling of all types of dry cargoes in the Greater Port of Saint-Petersburg.  It operates by modern specialized terminals for handling of ro-ro cargoes, cars and metals.
