MADYA PARDESH: Indian police have impounded illegal liquor worth Rs 75 lakh from a Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) capsule truck here the other day.

Agar superintendent of police Raghuveer Singh Meena said the capsule truck carrying about 1,600 boxes of foreign liquor was on its way to Gujarat from Haryana through Indore-Kota state highway.

Meena said the truck driver Hasan Ali (39) and cleaner Allauhudin (24) hail from Badisawari village, district Chittorgarh, Rajasthan and were asked to carry the consignment up to Pitol checkpost barrier in Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

Agar police team intercepted the vehicle as they got information that smugglers will smuggle liquor boxes in LPG capsule truck instead of a normal truck.

Around 6am, when the LPG capsule truck reached Agar check post, the police team intercepted it and recovered 1,600 boxes of foreign liquor.

The police officer said the vehicle entered Madhya Pradesh from Morena border. After passing through Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Rajgarh and Sahranjpur, it reached Agar district.

It must be mentioned that sale of liquor is banned in Gujarat and in the past too, the police and excise department had confiscated liquor consignments being transported to Gujarat along the same route.
