LAHORE: There is no permanent judge in the special court of custom taxation and anti-smuggling Lahore since the last 20 days. Special Judge of Custom, Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Tanveer Akbar has been transferred to Rawalpindi as district session judge. After his transfer, the post of the special judge is laying vacant.
Tanveer Akbar who was relinquished his charge on January 2, 2015 but no other judge has taken charge of the court. Mr Akbar was appointed by Islamabad High Court on deputation since January 2014.
After the transfer of Mr Akbar duty judge is performing his duty as acting judge but duty judge is only authorized to approve remand of the culprits or to grant bail of the accused involved in small charges. No verdict has come out as no judge is available there to precede the cases.
According to senior official of the court, it is expected that the new judge will take charge of the post within this month after orders by Islamabad High Court.
