LCCI slams LDA for sealing 50 industrial units on Ferozpur Road

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), while expressing grave concern over sealing of more than 50 industrial units on Ferozepur Road Industrial area, has demanded the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif take notice of the situation as this act of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will not only hamper the economic activities but also jeopardise the possibilities of new investment.

After having a meeting with the delegation of Ferozepur Road Welfare (Industrial) Organization, led by its Vice Chairman Chaudhry Asif, LCCI President Ijaz A. Mumtaz, Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir and Vice President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said that LDA act was against the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif who wants to make Punjab hub of economic activities.

The delegation members informed the LCCI office-bearers that LDA team has sealed over 50 industrial units without any prior information. They said that this unjustified step has created unrest in the business doing people.

LCCI office-bearers said that Lahore Development Authority (LDA) had never bothered to take businessmen of the area on board before taking such ultimate step.

They said that said it was very unfortunate that despite clear direction of the Chief Minister Punjab, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) was bullying and creating an atmosphere of harassment for the business doing people who are the backbone of the economy.

LCCI office-bearers said that the industrial sector was already passing through a critical time due to unavailability of much-needed electricity & gas and in dire need of handholding by the government to run their businesses but government departments like LDA was busy to aggravate the situation.

He said the private sector was ready to supplement all government efforts aimed at revival of economic activities in the country if they are provided breathing space but in the presence of such anti-business tactics, it would be very difficult for the private sector to continue with their businesses.

They urged the Chief Minister Punjab to take notice of the whole situation and order to de-seal the closed united of Ferozepur Road Industrial area immediately otherwise hundreds families of the industrial workers would be struggling for bread and butter.
