6th tranche of $550m: Pak-IMF talks to begin in Dubai as Fund’s team refuses to visit Islamabad

DUBAI: Pakistan and IMF are going to start talks for the release of 6th tranche of $ 550 million from tomorrow in Dubai after the Fund team’s refusal to visit Islamabad in the wake of security situation.

Officials from Ministry of Finance and Water, Power and Petroleum have already arrived in Dubai in this regard. Initial two rounds of talks would be at the technical level, while the policy level talks would be held in the first week of February, in which Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will lead the Pakistani delegation.

Senator Ishaq Dar had earlier stated that Pakistan has met the criteria set by the IMF, for the 6th tranche.

The head of the IMF Review Mission Jaffrey Frank will visit Islamabad, at the end of the talks and hold a joint press conference with the Finance Minister.

Earlier, the IMF had provided almost $3.2 billion to Pakistan under existing EFF arrangement but this money was largely used for paying back the previous loans obtained by Pakistan during the tenure of PPP government.
