Hong Kong Customs seizes cannabis, meth; nabs two smugglers

HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs nabbed two persons in Tin Shui Wai and Sau Mau Ping and seized 2.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, here the other day.

Officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau found 2.5 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis buds in the boot of a private car in Tin Shui Wai and arrested a man. Later Customs Officers further discovered a small amount of suspected cannabis buds and methamphetamine from the residence of the man in Sau Mau Ping.

Another woman was arrested. The market value of the drugs seized in the operation was about $450,000.

The two arrestees, a 42-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, claimed as a waiter and unemployed respectively. They were arrested for suspected drug trafficking, possession of drug, and possession of apparatus used for taking drug. The man will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (January 28), where the woman was put on bail pending investigation.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence.

The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
