NEW YORK: Online grocers Ocado likely to create nearly 1000 jobs as plans have been submitted for a fourth distribution centre in Erith, south-east London.
The company, which has agreements with Waitrose and Morrisons, is in the early planning stages for the site, which is 560,000 square feet and would be smaller than its other greater London site in Hatfield.
Ocado insist the new site will be more efficient, so more space would not be needed, and is being funded by investors from Tritax Big Box REIT.
The company, which invests in large distribution centres, is putting up the £98.8 million to build it and Ocado will lease the building on a 30-year contract.
Erith is particularly popular for retailers with large online operations, due to its fast links into London.
