NAB arrests TMO Mardan, contractor for causing loss to govt exchequer

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Tehsil Municipal Officer Mardan Muhammad Aaqil and contractor Sardar Afridi for alleged involvement in illegal award of contracts for collection of two percent immoveable property tax and causing huge loss to the government exchequer.

During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that Tehsil Municipal Administration Mardan awarded contract in 2011-12 and 2012-13 to blue eye contractor, which was in sheer violation of model terms and conditions of Local Council Board (LCB), revealed in NAB press release.

According to the model terms and conditions of LCB, there will be 15% yearly increase in the contract price but contrary to this TMA in order to extend illegal benefit to the contractor did not care about the same and awarded contract below reserved price. The contract awarding process was carried out by TMO Mardan and contractor Sardar Afridi made ring with the bidders and planted his own persons in the bidding process in both years.

NAB is actively pursuing the inquiry and more arrests are expected. The accused persons will be produced before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining their physical remand.
