TAIPEI: Taiwan-based Asus has launched its first wearable called the Zenwatch (priced at £149) at IFA Berlin in September 2014, is now set to launch the Zenwatch 2.

The comparatively long battery life of up to seven days is reportedly the result of a significantly simplified chipset and OS configuration.

“As a companion device, its central processing unit and operating system should be more simplified than the current version, so that I can use it for up to seven days on one charge, rather than for just two days,” stated Jonney Shih, Chairman of Asustek, to Focus Taiwan. Shih did not reveal the exact technical specifications of the Zenwatch 2.

Rumours indicate that the Asus Zenwatch 2 will offer voice-calling using SIM-card, independent of a smartphone.

Key features of the current Asus Zenwatch:

  • 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
  • Google Android Wear operating platform
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 4GB eMMc flash storage
  • Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB connectivity supported
  • Polymer 1.4Wh battery
  • FoneHelper feature
  • Built-in Wellness Manager health-monitoring package
  • “OK Google” voice-command supported

Currently, Asus Zenwatch is available for purchase online, in UK, for £210.
