ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that LNG terminal has been constructed in Karachi to enhance power generation. He said further that 1800 megawatt of electricity will be added to the national grid before the advent of summer season. He stated that 80% of gas shortage will be overcome by next winter. Abid Sher Ali added that K-electric and Sindh Government are defaulters.
Abid Sher Ali said that K-Electric owes Rs32 billion to Islamabad and the previously agreed deal will not be followed anymore. He said the government pays citizens of Karachi Rs70 billion as power subsidy. Ali said that the power distribution company has been asked to increase their power generation to 2400 MW. “We have to take into account the needs of the entire country and not just one city,” he said. The state minister urged the company to increase its own power generation capacity and assured that any shortfall would be covered by the federal government.
